^Snubbing your nose at books that aren't regarded as "high literature" by literary academics isn't as condemning as it might seem.

Being able to lighten or darken skin tone biologically isn't too far away, and the high tech, affluent segments of Asia will drive the market toward it.
The current technology... skin bleaching or, conversely, tanning... isn't very good for you, but once it's done biologically I'll encourage anybody to customize their appearance in whatever way makes them happy.

"I'm a federalist where I believe states should have more say..."
Apparently her and I have a different understanding of what "federalist" means.
"In contemporary usage [in the US], as articulated by president Bush's New Federalism, federalists advocate the principle of greater regional autonomy within the United States—usually by allowing individual states to set their own agendas and determine the handling of issues, rather than trying to impose a nationally uniform solution."

And I'm happy to have a nice intellectual conversation. It's one of the reasons I come visit the Sift. Make sure you read all my latest comments before replying (there are a lot of new ones in that thread) because I don't think I was fully understanding what you were trying to say until I looked at jwray's comment.
