Would you use Sarah Palin as a role model for aspiring young women who want to get in to politics? "Look girls, one day you can be as incoherent and unprepared as Ms. Palin..." I think not. She is, daily, setting back real women in politics because she just reinforces the "old boys" opinion that women are unsuited for such careers.
That is not to say she is completely incapable as a politician, merely that she is so far out of her depth that she looks incapable. I oppose her moral stances and think that governments should lean towards less meddling in the affairs of citizens (ie. reducing this mania for victimless crimes), but that is another issue.
Point 2: Abortion. Oooh, very scary topic. Splitting hairs over sentience or when life actually stops being an abstract concept and actually gets a ticket to this great ride we call human existence is pointless because there is no clear determinate that everyone will agree on.
My personal take? Leave the choice to the mother and let her take responsibility for her actions and the life of her child. In the long run, the government and the pro-lifers do not have to spend the rest of their life raising said child or taking responsibility for it. They make a nice clean moral judgement and wash their hands of the rest.
I do not agree with killing unborn babies but faced with the choice of forcing a woman to live with a child produced by rape when she really doesn't want to, there is no question in my mind that her priorities and preferences must take precedence over my own. Following on, if a young women get's pregnant (through lack of contraception, failure of contraception, stupidity etc), do I or anyone else have the right to dictate that the rest of her life must follow a certain path because of an error in judgement?
To mitigate this, set an arbitrary period on legal abortion at which point it is reasonable to expect a person to have made a informed decision on whether they want to terminate the child. Add a self-defense clause re: imminent danger of death to the mother and you're done.
ps. Some people might think ^ is a bit flippant. It's not, but the complexity of the issue and the emotion charged nature of it means that there will never be a true meeting of the minds. As such, the only recourse a government should take is an arbitrary decision that acknowledges that pro-lifers get the easiest time in this whole debate, but demand the most.
That is, they get to dictate terms of how another persons life plays out, but take no responsibility for that result. No care taken, no responsibility taken.
In some cases, they take that self righteousness a step or 2 further...

Incapable, as in unwilling, resistant, hesitant, stubborn, close minded, etc. I didn't call them stupid because stupidity encompasses their whole life, and I know enough successful and intelligent people that go all crazy when it comes to religious dogma. Yeah he's a CPA but he thinks Adam and Eve rode dinosaurs, and that praying can actually cure cancer. So yeah, INCAPABLE was the right word.

As for being intolerant or Religious people, I'm more than happy to say live and let live, but too many of them refuse to live by the same creed. I don't mind the believers that go to church and live by the bible and keep there beliefs to themselves, the ones I don't like are the one that think their beliefs give then the right to demand that society pander to their particular brand of BULLSHIT.

It'll never happen. Humans need belief, even if it's in themselves. It is a core part of the human condition, we search for greater meaning and even when we eschew higher powers, we seek that meaning in other ways.
Religion will never go away. Scientology proves that. Make up a wacky story, charge admission price and people flock to it, even though the casual observer should be able to figure out it's a huge money scam...
However, that is kinda irrelevant. Removing religion will not cure humanity of it's traits.

As a Libertarian/Republican I'm horrified by the government ponying up a trillion bucks to rescue a financial system that basically screwed itself over. This isn't the work of a conservative government - this is a massive slide into Socialism.
How is robbing the taxpayers of billions of dollars to ensure companies that are failing due to bad business decisions "socialist"..?
Socialism is supposed to shift power from capitalists back in to the hands of the people (eg. Labor unions are a socialist organisation, the willingly strike and endanger their own jobs for the greater good of the whole).
What you have here, Mr. Rebulican/Libertarian, is a government taking money from the people (you know, those things that socialists are fond of) and handing it to the capitalists with no strings attached. Even worse is the supposition that these monies will be used to pay out execs.
That, my friend, is criminal...
Last but not least, the whole stupid bloody market is prompted up on the very thin premise that one of your countries biggest creditors (you know, China... That big communist place, ooh, very scary...) won't just decide to dump your currency at which point the exact sum of the rescue package really becomes immaterial. Doesn't matter if you divide a dollar worth of zero by 700bn or 10 trillion, the answer is still "error".

The problem with Christianity, atheism, vegetarianism, pro-life, feminism etc etc etc (pretty much any divider that segregates people in to groups/factions) is not that people believe a certain thing, it is that they are intolerant of people having their own beliefs.
Don't impinge on other peoples rights and believe what you want. The world will be a much better place...

Too little capitalism, the government essentially controls everything and stifles investment/growth. There is little room for the entrepreneur in a solid socialist society.
Too little socialism and the corporations control the people. Then you see extreme prices on drugs (which could be subsidised for the greater good), high cost for medical care, companies that willfully break the law to improve their shareholders value because it is so competitive that one false move can see the whole house of cards collapse...
I think extremists to either view point will always be the ones that get it the most wrong. If you at least have 2 different viewpoints, hopefully there will be a middleground that satisfies most of the people most of the time.

Y'know, it's clear this guy is an ignorant fool, but it's just sad that there are those who would seek to take pleasure in the misfortune of others. This man is a sad person. He's misguided and dangerously so, but that doesn't mean we should wish hell and damnation upon him. I've done stupid things in my life. I think we all have. Perhaps this guy's stupid thing was caught on tape. (Though it really seems like he's just doing this tongue-in-cheek to egg on the interviewer, but that's beside the point.)
No matter what this person has done, he does not deserve to get abused by having $150,000 taken from him. Yes, his ideas deserve to get ridiculed. Yes, he's being a total douchbag.
But yes, he's _human_. Just like you and I. He is ignorant, but trying to say he somehow deserves to be attacked because he has chosen to be stupid is very selfish and, as a whole, just as ignorant. We're in this problem, this fucking mess over in the middle east, because the Republicans appealed to our vindictive side to coerce us to let them start a war. The correct answer is always compassion. The correct answer is _never war_. That is precisely the opposite message being sent by The Young Turks in this clip.
It's sad to see this side stooping to the lows of the other... It will only be when we can all exist without this hate that we will finally know peace. Hopefully we'll find it before we destroy ourselves.

He is supporting a repeat of an action that saw 1,000,000 Iraqi's dead, is driving your country to the brink of bankruptcy (and shows no sign of slowing down) and, quite frankly, America today reminds me of Japanese or German imperialism during the Second World War.
He is advocating war against a country which has no possible way to strike at the US or it's allies in any meaningful capacity. It verges on the criminal and he should be thankful all she did was rob him.

The guy in the video justifies the bail out of FM/FM by pointing out the horrible ramifications, both domestically and abroad...
